The Cat in the Hat Project "ESSAY"

OPTION #1: CHARACTER ANALYSIS

1. An argument the states how the character's personality contirbutes to the plot and the theme.

In the story Cat in the Hat, each character's personality are different either they are the the Id who the devil who sit on your shoulder, or the ego the angel and superego. Every personality are decribe in there inner though and what make us different from other. The cat in, Cat in the Hat is more likely to be the Id of the story. Because he the one who cause all the problem and with out him the story wouldn't have a conflict . Another things about the Cat is that he make up the plot , because he the one who bring conflict to the story, which this make him a big part of the story. One of the example of the conflict is when the Cat did his trick even though the fish say no. and then he also brought in thing one and two which cause even more problem . Then thing one and thing two got the house all mess and even cause a bigger conflict now that the house is all in a mess. Which it was all cause by the Cat who seem to want to do thing his way. The way he contributes to the theme is that he show his own thinking and the way he want thing to be his why , he mainly has his own independent though. The cat contribute to the story more then the narrator and his sister Sally. Because as you read through the story you would find that the narrator and Sally doesn;t say much at all, much like the Cat he say things that he want to or even more his feeling of doing things his way. The cat is an indirect characterization one example is, he the way he always say thing so joyful and always wanting to have fun. The tone of his vioce seem to always want to do thing that only include having fun. He also don't really even listen to anyone and just keep saying things about what he want to do and have fun. Also the cat is like always so carefree watever he say.. oh dang this sum up pretty much about how the cat is a indirect character. Each part of the support i have give a support to my agurment that the cat is really a big part of the story, he sum up the whole story as well. Plus the story wouldn't even be call Cat in the Hate. The support i give are part that give you the idea of the Id of the story while the other character can be a ego or a superego. This also give people the idea of what the story is telling you which one is an Id or ego and superego. For like Sally and the narrator they are see different in through each part of the story they are most like the ego and in the middle the Id. For the fish you can tell right alway that he is the ego all the way, th eone who want to stop the conflict. Which this give us the support that the cat play a big part in the story who contributes to the theme and plot of the story. This is pretty much what i think so what do you think about this then? BLog 2 - PERSEPOLIS

Describe the writer's voice. Is it apealing? Which aspects of Marji's character do you identify with or like the most, the least? Did your reaction to the girl afect your reading experience?

The vioce of the writer's is best to describe as a more alive vioce and one who have gone through a stuggle. Im not really sure how would you really describe the writer's vioce in Persepolis. Im would have to thing this farther more. I like the most about Marji's Character is that she always into like politice and she into helping her people and wanting to knoe even more. But then the least that make me don't like her that much is that she wonder to much and like what she see god weird. I think that the picture just get to me about Marji's character. Through out the story i did have these reaction about this girl. It was all like seeing what she went through and what the thing was how she did still stay strong to the very end. Even if there is still more that is going to come or is happening. But what got me the most was that she really did want to stood up for her country and for a girl at that age to do that is like a jump to me. It really also get me a question to myself is that "would i also do that for my country," it made me think i would even have the engery to do that i would be some what not into it at all. But then this is my own opinoin on the the main character in this story.


What is the role of women in the story? Compare and contrast the various women: Marji, her mother, her grandmother, her school, neighbors, gurardians of the revoultion.

The role of women in this story was that girl was to stay home and do the house work and also barely had any right of there own. To compare this to mans they had little right and not much the same as a mans would. Man on the other hand can speak of what they want or what they say which other people would also give them respect and would listen to. Both gender had there own right but man are the one that have the most. Ccomparing this to the people that Marji's see aroung aspecial women, they are give law and rule to be follow or to be punish. Just as thing change in the story, Marji family, friend, neighbors, and stranger that are women had new rule to follow as thing keep on happening. Right now it seem as there still things that are still happen right at this moment were woman in Iran or anywhere in the middle east are going through many changest. Have to much in mind to say but ima leave it here for today.....

In what ways is "Persepolis" both telling a story and commenting on the imporatance of stories in our lives? What does the book suggest about how stories shape and give meaning to our experience? Discuss some of the stories in "Persepolis" - Uncle Anoosh's story, her grandmother's story, Niloufar's story.

In Persepolis it also does tell us a importance and truth to our lives. It tell us the truth of what a war or stuggle can do to a girl or even to us. It give us a change and make our lives, different and also a change to us and that change that shape us to. But as right now there are still much that are going on things that make us different, our are past and the experience that shape us. Each and everyone are shaped differetly just because of our experience, but if you think about it our experience had connection to other people to. Those that are around mayalso have the same experince as you. In Persepolis, Uncle Anoosh's story shaped him and mad him who he is. Is something that is a part of what make him different is through this experience. Like even if her life his wife and kids who were Russian, it made him have a different view of people. Experience are all different but it shaped everyone.

"Why do you think this genre is so popular? why did Satrapi chose this format in which to tell her story? What does the visual aspect add that a conventional memoir lacks? Have you read other graphic memoris? How does persepolis compare to other comic and books? Would you call this a comic book or does it transcend this and other categories? Where would you place this book in a book story? With memoris, comic books, current event?

The reason i think that this genre is a popular one is that, is had a better understand to the reader and also give the reader a visual already. It also give a reader a way of understand the face and feeling of the character. I think the reason that Satrapi chose this format is that it give the reader a different way of reading a novel then with a million word. When one picture already tell a million word. The visual add an aspect of a memoir lack, when not much of the text tell the story. To tell the truth this is the first grapic memoris, but it would a interesting things to read more and see the different way other author would write there grapic memoirs. Also how they going to draw the picture that are different from Satrapi. Comparing Persepolis to other comic and books, is that comic are always short and book are like long and so on and so for. But for graphic novel are more like a story with picture that set the story out. I would call this a graphic novel kidding i most likely not going to call this a comic because like i say comic was like short and not long as a graphic novel. If I would to put this in a book story i would but it in the hisorty section. The reason is that it had some history and also of a person pass.

How does Satrapi Challenge this myth? How does Persepolis dispel or confirm your views on Iran? In what ways does reading this book deepen your understanding and knowledge of Iran, and current situation in Iraq?

I think that the way she challenge this myth is to give what people think and turn it to be the truth behind it all. But also it give the opinion of what girl gone through and what thr truth she want to tell. I think after reading this book it give a different point of view of Iran. It teach mean so dark history and information that tell me what can a girl done at the time. It would make you think why and what the main reason of doing so. But it really don't give me a bad view or anything just that there information that help me understand the history. The knowlege of Iran teach me wat is going on right now in Iraq, which give out why this going on. It was because of the geographic that made most of there situation acurred.

How is Persepolis oranized and structured? What has Satrapi chosen to emphasize in her childhood? How is the passage of time presented. Describe Satrapi's drawings. How do the drawing. How do the drawings add to the narrative of the story?

Persepolis is organized and structure by the way the narrator think and talk about. I think that mainly is about how each things the narrator talk about and express. Satrapi chosen to emphasize her childhood base on what main things happen to her. Along with what she saw and think at the time a child would see the world as. The time in Persipolis are presented in what main things that happen or had occured to the narrator. The way the drawing is set is that it show expersion and the way people feel and the history that tell through each drawing. I also show what one person opinion is. The drawing add the narrator story a better way understandign along with text. Since the text only say alittle, it give the picture another way of telling the story as well.

"FEED" Final Project....."REFLECTION"

Reflection:
>What does your "FEED" contain and why?<

My "Feed," would mainly conatin my indiviual things. It wouldn't be like just one simple group, like for example a punky girl or a funky girl. I wouldn't be in a group or have a title that make me the same as every one. Maybe on wat my though say about me and not wat a machine things of me. The feed for wouldn't like organize me into something im not. Just like Titius and his friend.

What this say about the American culture is that we are all pretty the same, mainly what we want and see. We American are greed and aways want more and mainly can have less. This also define AMerican culture as a consumerism group, who don't knoe and expect of what they are buying. American culture can be define also buy what are media and social play a role in our live. You can say that we are indentity to consumerism, which pretty much sum up what American are.....Will that wat i would say it really depended on the person ....

The social implication of technology are use comsumrism, because it what get to the people. There are pro and con because it really depended base on wat is use and what are being consumed. Some of the pro can either one the things that some people agree to it or not just like for con. It really depend if we could resist it or not base on our personality and what we want and need of the good. Base upon what are there that we need or that please us.

I think it doesn't affect me that much, but maybe some of them does at some point. Because popular does affect us human the most we want what are cool and everyone having it. It does have some kind of affect on me but i do have my own personal though and what i want and need. Also me wanting to be different from other people. These thing does mold us and we do mold them as well, because with out us then they would be like that and same go to us. So we all do just mold one another to get what people get to personality.

It really don't give me any sort of impact. Define me, will im pretty not sure how can define me, because im define in any group. But all i could say is im a human with a mind of is own. What does it say about me and my personality will , base upon what i do and what make me who iam and me a different human. Everyone individuality are different we are all not the same and always would not be . Just like even if you are twins you guy would never be the same in mind and personality.

> If there is a moral to the story, what is it? How does Anderson convey this moral?<

For me i think there is a moral to this story. I think the moral is that is based on the character mood and it get back to Violet personality. The way Anderson convey this moral is i think the way each character personality or individually are. He might have make it as the different each person is with a feed or not.....

>Are people anything without the feed, in the world of the story?<

The people are nothing with out the feed, because they all grew up having that so it would be like weird without it. They would all be like bored and nothing. The world and feed would be like an empty world with people all doing stupid thing just trying to have some fun and they would maybe do stupid things. Just like when Titius and his friend did when the got hacked, like acting stupid and dorky.

-How do the image tell a story, represent your theme?

Each picture could tell you how consume effect our life each and every day. The theme of these picture is consumerism. As you can see all these picture what we see make us want to buy and then use money as nothing. Because to use we use money to make us happy but at we consume more the less we care what we buy. Then that would lead to how money would become useless. If you look at the picture with the man in the street look as he was crazy, but look at all the sign of all the thing corporation want him to buy. Each picture tell a story of people of America and all over the world using money to pursue their pleasure.

-What's message? What do th picture say?

The message that these picture is that when we are surrounded by all these advertisment and commerical we get influence by either people we admire or people that make sense to us. But the message of these picture tell us that the thing that we we buy would make us happy or either make us something that is close to being perfect. These five picture tell us how much are environment make us become what we are as concumerism.

-Why did you choose the images you did, what are their importance, implications and influence?

The reason why i have choose these images is because these stand out and tell us what consumerism is and the mean of it. Another reason is that is make as if th world is like just money like we would just use up and, as if we can buy another one. The importance of each picture is that it show a different side of consume and the influence. For example is the picture with a lady with all these shoe and boxs, it tell us that we consume so much that we some time forget the vaule of money. We are mostly seem to be influence by cartoon and things that stand out which draw us to it and without notice we buy it. Corporation make thing that make us want to get is because the color and or even popular people.

-What are the applications or use of, understandings and vaules of some combination of the text themes that you have developed and/ or experienced over your life time?

There really is a thing to say when i ahev developed these i mean i see media and things that influence me. I see alot that would make want to buy it but at time when your like broke you some time even barrow just to get something that what we call, " PLEASURE." I hear many things that influence but then i tempt to just not thing about it at all. It really depended on the person. I use to shop like crazy but once you learn the truth you stop shopping like a freak. If it was other people they would want to buy thing that make them seem just like other. But to me i do things that other don't do i like to be just me not like some other girl. So media don't really have much influence on me as much only if im like bored. i choose to fo things on my own i really don't like being always influence on doing something that is not really me.

- How have you develped these?( where, how, who helped you?)

Mainly how, where, and who, actually it been like since ever i guess. i mean when you first enter the world you pretty much want to have things and get influence as you grow. so there really isn't really a time when this start or even end. Were human we always will want thing and have pleasure and doing so.

-What are your feelings about them?

I pretty much wouln't have much feeling, telling the truth here. As this point can't really say much about how things of consumerism affect my feeling or anything. I would really have to get into this deeper. But as i read through "FEED," you would start to see some feeling that thses character have with the feed. But really at the point im kind of really don't knoe you can say im confused.

BLog 2- "FEED"

In the story of "Feed," Violet was the girl who was weird and not really into the Feed. In a sentence from "Feed," Violet had said that, " This is my project." So what was her project, well it is trying to mess aroung with the Feed and by trying to stop the Feed from making a profile for her. This tell us about how Violet personality is different from all the other teen and even the 75% of the population with a Feed. Also you can see that Violet really want to live her life as in normal not always with the Feed. I find that Violet is some what like a friend of mine, who pretty much don't like to consumed things like everyone including me. Which when i think about she pretty weird, you know like how people one thing that look just like everyone else. The things that that make Violet and my friend the same is that they don't want to be like every one else that just want to be normal like mainly there own define or normal. Going back to when Violet told Titus about this project, he was like thinking that she was weird. Which I would think the same too. The way he answer her make it seem like he didn't care much about what she was doing at long as he with her. Also it didn't really got him into it, like the way Violet was like trying all these things. It tell us that Titus would just act like any other guy with the Feed.

" Now that SchoolTM is run by the corporation , it's pretty much brag, because it teaches us how the would can be used, like mainly how to use our feeds:(p.90) The ways that school and or society teach us about the world is that is tell us what we need. Basily like a place where we need to buy things to be like other or to mainly be popular. It also telling us something like when we consumed it would be a help or something to the world. What i mean is that the more we consumed it would be a help to the economic but also were trahing the earth. Just like in Feed the moon like like trash flying everywhere. I think that the reason consumer culture is so strong is that we human has this thing were we always want and can help but keep getting things that we don't even need. Like we are attached to these thing, is like if we don't buy it we would like don't feel happy. But then after that is like "Oh Shit i just like waste money on this." The beneficial of companies teaching is saying that we need this and that to be able to be something which no one can be. How things that we buy should be things that can make us happy, but really does it ?- that the question. Also is dangerous to concume, the reason is that because as we keep consume the would is going to be like a big ball of garbage or trash.

After all that had happen to Titus and his friend his friend brought him a car. Like would any of are parent would be like "oh we going to buy you a car because what had happen to you ." The respond that Titus reaction to his parent is more like it was like the best thing for him. Which i mean all teen would be happy about it, but one thing is that would you think why is only out of pity that why? I think that thing is that Titus is like those type of guy who would mainly accept almost everything if people buy to him. I mean if my parent buy me a car i would be happy, but then what is the reason of all this. In Feed everyone seem to be like into things that are new and what everyone want so if Titus like get a car it would he like everyone else. Pretty much i would say Titus is like okay with and to me im like i would too, I mean at least i can get a car i guess........

"FEED "- Blog 1

In the book Feed, each chararter had a very unique name. I think the reason why Anderson chose these name because each one represent each character. For example Link, who look just like Abraham Lincoln and that how you could tell why he got the name Link. Another example you would find is, the name Violet is more like a organic name. What i think is that Anderson want wach character name to tell each chararcter personality. Each chararcter name also represent the world they live in. You could tell when you see the name Violet is more organic and people who into just not into tecnolgy. Compare this to how Titus the main character of Feed, he live in a world were he could get anything he want. This could also be why Anderson chose these name for each character.

In this sentence, "We went to the moon to have fun, but the moon turned out to completely suck," this tell us that Titius and his friend must had went to the moon more then once. It also tell us that the moon is a place where probably all teen went just like we teen go to like the mall or other popular place. This sentence sep up the novel in a way that make you go like "What the heck is going on." It also make the novel set up make it sound as the moon was like nothing but trash, but then the moon was full of trash which was like flying every where. Which connecting me back to class, i find that if we consumed to much wouldn't are trash be like the trash that was in Feed up in the moon. What i mean is that wouldn't everything we consumed become nothing and is being like trash that one leave behind floating somewhere. This sentence sep up the story like many thing are going to occur. Just like when Titus and his friend got hacked.

In Feed, Titus and his friend went to the moon at louge for Spring Break, compare to my Spring Break it would had been pretty much not the same at all. Wow I mean this kids went to the moon wow that amazing. I would had envision my Spring Break of doing what most teen would do. Like sleep and maybe play outside and oh yea eat alot . But when comparing what i would envison my spring break to Feed, they would be some what the same. I mean in Feed they go to place where most teen go just like what we teen would do during are spring break. Also people seem want to find some one to hangout with or a lover, just like when Titius was looking for a lover. But when you think about it every teen does different things to have fun either having to do with even drug. So when comaparing my spring break to Feed they're only about some what the same. Because each teen had their own personality which connect to what they would do.
